Water Quality Shapes Freshwater Macroinvertebrate Communities in Northern Tunisia

This study investigated the effect of main physicochemical factors in structuring aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages three streams northern Tunisia. Aquatic and water surveys were carried out seasonally 2013, at pristine sites altered located, respectively, upstream downstream parts investigated. Macroinvertebrates sampled using a kick net Surber net, eight measured same time. Both biotic abiotic data analyzed STATICO method. A total 41 taxa collected during sampling period, most dominant Diptera (Culicidae) Oligochaeta (Tubificidae). identified dissolved oxygen, COD, BOD5 as major shaping assemblages. highlighted impacts anthropogenic land-based activities such urban runoff on distribution diversity macrobenthic invertebrates sites.
